SUPER-SHARP VIEW OF THE PLEIADES

You don't need a telescope to see the Pleiades. This a naked eye object that has been known since ancient times. The Pleiades, also designated as Messier 45, is an open cluster of a few hundred stars. There are 7 bright members easily seen without a telescope, hence the common name of The Seven Sisters. This object is a great target for a small telescope or even a pair of binoculars. It may take a little more aperture to reveal the nebulosity which is so prominent in photographs.

This image shows incredible detail in the nebulosity. You can even see a small background galaxy buried in the edges of the whispy nebula that is revealed in few photos. Credit for this beautiful image goes to Tony and Daphne Hallas (www.astrophoto.com).
